In Introductory Logic Video Tutorials, Artspace Sydney’s inventory of monitors is brought out to relay a series of lessons on formal philosophical logic. A number of logical structures are translated into video installation format, comparing the form of the medium to the nature of a logically-sound argument, explored through a number of maneuvers ranging from “Negation” to “Tautology” to “Denying the Antecedent.” Each monitor plays a short video explaining the term it takes after, relaying lessons from a real Introduction to Logic course at the University of Sydney. Each of these works explores the idea that, in formal logic, an argument’s validity is determined on the basis of its form, irrespective of its content.

Several “double canvas” works are also on view here: sculptures comprised of canvases on stretcher bars facing each other, evoking the form of a video monitor even as they bear static printed images.
